Dan Merkle
Dan Merkle has been an attorney in Seattle since 1983. He has co-founded and advised many emerging and established non-profit and for-profit organizations. He has been supporting social justice projects for the past fifteen years involving global justice, criminal justice, independent media, communications systems, homelessnesss, corporate accountability, political music and art, the tobacco industry and overall movement building.
In 1999, Dan helped start the Independent Media Center (www.indymedia.org) and spent the following year working with others to expand the Indy Media network. His major focus for the past several years has been building the Center for Social Justice (www.centerforsocialjustice.org) which is a resource and strategy center for various social justice organizations and projects. The major program areas include the overhaul of the criminal justice system in Washington State and restoring democracy.
