Jan Hauser is the former, Principal Architect for Sun Microsystems (for 16+ years) http://www.sun.com and presently is a visiting professor at the Naval Postgraduate School. Jan's interests include leading-edge technology and Complexity Science. He is an active member of the Santa Fe Institute http://www.santafe.edu, the Chaordic Alliance with Dee Hock http://www.chaordic.com and at The Institute For The Future http://www.iftf.org where he helped organize the Growing At the Edge workshop http://www.iftf.org/outlook/eco-web/index.html Jan also has promoted the idea that Complexity Science may offer breakthroughs in the area of self-organizing computer systems. One early project proposal was to investigate the development of an http://www.santafe.edu/%7Emanor/EOS.html">Emergent Operating System. While this proposal is about three years old, it now seems that technology allows for this kind of Complexity Science application. One of Jan's early efforts in Complexity Science was chronicled in July 1998 in the Wall Street Journal: "Looking to Give Executive A Living Computer" http://www.janhauser.com/wsj.html.

From his vantage point as a "recovering engineer" Jan is now exploring the following questions:
  • How the destruction of our biosphere relates to our economic and monetary systems?
  • Why our Gross National Product Ð GNP Ð is NOT a sign of well being.
  • What is Natural Capitalism and how to implement it?
