| Description | EcoMonitor processes large samples of Web sites – currently more than 5,000 – and has accumulated over a terabyte of data since 1999. Each month, the webLyzard crawling agent extracts key indicators automatically, which ensures consistency, speed and scalability. Structural and textual analysis then convert the wealth of gathered information – e.g. from news reports, scientific articles, government resources, press releases and corporate environmental disclosures – into site profiles and aggregated content representations.
A Web portal will serve as a collaborative platform for participating researchers and the general public. Providing a real-time account of current environmental trends in raw, aggregated and visual formats, the portal will raise public awareness and translate scientific insights into behavioural change on both organisational and individual levels. Interactive visualisations of identified patterns will highlight the rise and decay of environmental topics, identify trends in the coverage of green technologies and determine the prominence of sustainability in political campaigns or corporate disclosures.
